ARTISTS > Marlee Scott

For a young lady of 23 years, Marlee already has a head full of memories of both the music she makes and the musical journey that has inspired her. Today, Marlee is a rising star on the country music scene and is impressing veteran artists, radio programmers, talent buyers and most recently, Big Ride Management; but perhaps most importantly, audiences who instantly respond to her live performances.

Marlee Scott can be described as an engaging singer, an exceptionally talented songwriter, as well as an accomplished guitar player and performer. She started writing her own material in her early teens, put together a band, and started playing local live shows by the time she was sixteen. Even at that age, remembers Marlee, “I had moved out of the Britney phase that all my friends were in and started singing country music.” Marlee was being inspired by the music of artists like Trisha Yearwood, Shania Twain and the Mavericks.

When Marlee was 18, she made her first trip to Nashville to write with various recording artists, with whom she had shared stages around her hometown in Canada. One of those artists was Steve Fox, and those initial co-writes eventually led the two to produce an album together in Nashville. Her freshman album, “Souvenir” led to regional radio play and album sales, as well as the opportunity to open for Michelle Wright on her Christmas Tour in 2007.

In February of 2008, Marlee signed a management deal with Big Ride Management, and has since written and recorded her sophomore album, with the help of veteran songwriter and producer, Rick Giles. Numerous contemporary country stars including Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Steve Wariner, Terri Clark and Patty Loveless have all recorded Rick’s compositions. He also produced Michelle Wright’s award winning single, “Take it Like a Man”, penned a pop hit for Hall and Oates, and his song “Is There Life Out There” became a signature song for Reba McEntire.

Marlee feels she has placed herself in extraordinary creative company, co-writing and working in the studio with Rick. According to Rick, “Marlee will be ready to handle the entire process on her own, from writing to performing and producing, within a couple of years…she’s an amazing talent!”

It’s Marlee’s intimate voice and emotional delivery, as well as the quality of her songwriting, that allow Marlee, and her listeners, to continue on this inspiring and interesting sonic journey.
